Topic: Building a ChatBot in the Cloud

Presenter: Mike Erickson

Date: Thursday, November 09, 2017

Time: 6:30:00 PM -

Location: Simmons Building @ DATC

In this presentation we will use Amazon Lex and AWS Lambda to build a ChatBot front end that will support a natural English conversation with the bot to get a (fake) referral to a Doctor. Amazon Lex and AWS Lambda are two managed services in Amazon Web Services (AWS). Amazon Lex supports the definition of a ChatBot interface and relies on Natural Language Understanding (NLU) and Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR). Each of these technologies is closely tied to the Amazon Echo devices and the Alexa service on which they run. With these ties to Alexa you can expect any ChatBots you build with AWS to become more intelligent and useful over time.
